South West Bicester (Kingsmere)

Several of Bicester’s housing developments have a headline feature, be it self-build or sustainability. For Kingsmere a key appeal is the provision of a multi-million pound sports village which will be set among traditional homes.

The site is located to the south west of Bicester and will deliver up to 2,468 homes across two phases. The homes will be a mixture of designs ranging from modest two bedroom homes to executive six bedroom properties. As per all major developments, affordable rent and shared ownership opportunities will be available.

Construction for the first phase of the project is ongoing and will include the provision of 1,742 homes.A purpose built primary school was completed in April 2016 which the town’s existing St Edburg’s Primary School relocated to.A new secondary school is also planned. A Premier Inn hotel and Brewers Fayre Restaurant, which were both built as part of the first phase, are already open and operating seven days a week.Frequent bus services now run throughout Kingsmere providing a direct connection to Bicester,Oxford city centre and the railway stations.

The second phase of the project will include the provision of up to 726 homes and a convenience store, local shops and community centre. Both phases of development will involve the creation of jobs to support the new residents. The development is being led by Countryside Properties Bicester Ltd working with a range of national house builders.

A key feature of the Kingsmere development will be the new multi-million pound sports village, being delivered by Cherwell District Council. The initial phase to construct grass pitches and a cycling/ jogging track has already been completed and in October 2015, Cherwell submitted an application for a £3.3 million two-storey sports pavilion.

The new pavilion will house sports club facilities on the ground floor including changing rooms, lockers, a treatment room and showers as well as a built-in hot food service area fronting onto the pitches for spectators to purchase refreshments. Upstairs there will be a function room with a kitchen and bar and space to accommodate up to 150 seated guests.
