Delivering for Bicester
Bicester is making history as a town at the forefront of pioneering growth with millions of pounds due to be invested over the next 15 years. It is home to the UK’s largest self-build scheme, the country’s most sustainable housing development and the world famous Bicester Village shopping centre. It offers central transport links, sustainable living and the prestige of being a Garden Town with Vanguard status.
The scale of the development proposed is set out in the Cherwell Local Plan (2011 – 2031), which following its various stages, was subject to public Examination in December 2014 and following recipt of the Inspectors Report, adopted by Cherwell District Council on 21st July 2015. The Cherwell Local Plan sets out the strategy for the growth of the District and contains a detailed section on the growth of Bicester, including a series of development sites around the town, for housing, employment and the accompanying infrastructure required to manage the scale of planned growth.
Over the next 15 years the town will receive significant investment which will be used to help fund:
With the development of the town Bicester’s population is set to almost double from 30,000 – 50,000.
This expansion requires partnership working to ensure the growth is co-ordinated and managed to minimise disruption and maximise opportunities.
The Growing Bicester initiative will provide a platform for key stakeholders to work together and for residents and visitors to find out exactly what is happening within the town.
